The position

The identification and chemical-functional characterization of molecules from natural sources as part of drug discovery are key research areas in the pharmaceutical sciences. We are seeking to appoint an excellent candidate who will advance natural product-based research and drug discovery using cutting-edge technologies, including (big) data science. The use or development of AI tools is highly desirable. Outstanding candidates in related fields will also be considered. The position fits into the strategic priorities of the University of Vienna, ‘Global health: physical, mental and social dimensions of health’, ‘Systems of life – foundations of life’ and ‘Digital and data-driven transformations of science and society’.

Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Vienna play a leading role in three key research areas of the Faculty of Life Sciences: “Biomolecules for a Healthy Lifespan,” “Computational Life Sciences,” and “Innovation in Drug Research.” The tenure-track professorship will be located at the intersection of these areas and will contribute bioinformatic expertise. The tenure-track professorship is also embedded in the PI panel of the Vienna Doctoral School PhaNuSpo, comprising pharmaceutical, nutritional and sport sciences.

Your academic profile:

  • Doctoral degree/PhD
  • Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies
  • Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
  • Gender and diversity competence
  • Experience in designing of and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups and acquire third-party funding
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level

It is expected from the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, to acquire proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.
